Just two casual pictures I snapped from my window.

If you’ve followed the blog long enough, you’ll know that I did an artist feature on my friend Vida Carson a while back. She was a beast back then but her skills have become nothing short of a blasphemous diatribe of the status quo and all that is mundane. I had the thrill of receiving a text from her telling me that her work was featured in Essence Magazine and I knew that I would be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge her accomplishments here on the site. I know that she reads the blog and supports all that we are trying to accomplish here at Fiend Movement so I have to support those who support me and forward progress. Congrats Vida!!!!

I get a sad kick out of going down my timeline and seeing 10k people reblog the same cliche pictures of people that nobody personally knows. They’re always touched up with post-developmental desaturations and girly fonts typed in muted colors and occasional galaxy-filled texts that convey already heard ideas about love, peace, sex, or some synergetic hyper-combination of them all. If this picture doesn’t get a billion reblogs, either you didn’t understand what I said or you’re just a hater. Lol.

I recently bought myself a Canon T2i for christmas and decided to go out and take some pictures. I’m going to upload a series of shots that I took and really enjoyed along with some cool captions. Let the uploading begin.

My mom told my sisters and I to head down to Lord & Taylor’s today. When we got there there was nothing but old lady clothing and over-priced remnants of the 80’s. Needless to say, we left and went elsewhere. We ended up at Franklin Mills playing music at Sam Ashe, avoiding the throngs of mall thugs and fake purse clutching “fashionistas” and shopping for some good deals. The GAP was having a pretty decent sale so I ran in there and grabbed three pairs of jeans, a pair of khakis and a leather belt. Here’s a quick glimpse. Happy new year everyone.

I would normally try to say something slightly intelligent or funny but I do not want to take away from this. Enjoy.

I always wanted to take a really cool time lapse photo. I haven’t done it yet, but this photo has inspired me. I just need to find something cool to take a pic of here at Penn State. Any suggestions? Btw…the picture changes when you move your cursor over it.

Fiendmovement has been bringing you quality content for a while, but there’s always room for improvement. Its cool to discuss pop culture and overly-saturated media from time to time but I want to keep things fresh and new. That’s why today…I’m bringing you fiendmovement’s first “Meet The Artist” interview. Today, you guys get a chance to meet Vida Carson and see some of her work. She’s a personal friend of mine and I love her work. Now you get a chance to see some for yourself & get a small glimpse into her life.

Q. Hey there Vida, Can you give the readers fiendmovement.com some basic info about yourself?
A. My name is Vida Carson, I’m 20 years old, I go to Temple University and have been a wedding and portrait photographer for about two years.
Q. When did you begin taking photos and what inspired you to start?
A. I bought my camera when I first started in college and a friend of mine needed some photos taken so she asked me if I’d take some. I said sure, thinking that they’d come out mediocre (at best) but she loved them. From there, I did a bunch of free work and fell in love. The rest is history :)
Q. Has anyone influenced your photography and if so who?
A. I don’t think anyone has influenced my style of photography because I think I’m falling into my own personal style. There are a few photographers that have taught me that it’s okay to have a different style than others and they are (to name a few): Jose Villa, Chenin Boutwell, Joey L and Bobby Earle. I would love to be able to travel and document like Bobby Earle or Joey L.
Q. What aspects of your work are you most proud of?
A. I think I’m most proud of the moments that I capture. I try not to pose my couples too much and instead I actually try to connect with that. Because of that - I think I capture genuine emotions.
Q. What makes you different than other photographers?
A. My approach to photography is modern, fresh and fun. I’m not afraid to think outside the box or act silly in front of my clients - anything to make them laugh or smile :)
Q. Where do you hope to be in 10 years?
A. In 10 years, I hope to be a successful wedding photographer. I also hope I’ve done quite a bit of traveling and possibly starting a family.
Q. Who are your favorite bands to listen to/ one song that everyone should hear?
A .One song that I think everyone should hear is Eclipse by Nujabes. It gets me every time.. I love it.
Q. If you had 1 million dollars to spend…what would do with it?
A. If I had a million dollars I would give $20k to my mom, take a huge trip around the world and then save the rest for a rainy day.
Q. If you had 24 hrs to live..what would you do?
A. Eep, 24 hours to live? I’d invite everyone I truly love over for a sleepover and eat lots of fattening comfort food.
Q. This is not a question but here is where you can shit talk, give shout outs, and or say something witty/inspirational.
A. I guess here I just want to say that I really hope brides stop short changing their photographers. I know that weddings cost a lot of money but the one thing that shouldn’t be low balled is the photography. At the end of the day when the DJ leaves, the cake is eaten and your dress is collecting dust in your closet - what do you have left? Your pictures! One of the first things people save in a fire? Pictures! So why would you trust your pictures in the hands of Uncle Bob? You and your future love deserve better than that.
