Where 90’s R&B meets gospel is where you’ll find Keke Wyatt. Her soulful sounds soothe and make for great driving music or unsuspecting prequels to a late night Trey Songz medley (if you get my drift). I was not a big fan of the original version, but this remix is not to be slept on.

S/o to the UK for bringing us Tinie Tempah. From the moment the intro came on all I could say was OMG. His beats are electrifying, his background singers chew up tritones for breakfast and he’s stomping all over these songs in a way that few European imports have imagined let alone mastered. Turn this album up in your stereo system and blast your way down the highway…it will not disappoint. I’d tell you more about this album, but you really need to experience it for yourself.

It’s been a while since I’ve heard a new R&B artist come out and really have chance to stand up amongst the big boys. With a voice that hovers somewhere between Chris Brown and Bobby Valentino, an album that features artists from Gorrilla Zoe to Yung Joc and production that sounds like Tank/The Dream sat down in the studio and just told him to go, JC is making quite an impression with his album “Ear Candy”. His ballads are soft and harmonic and his more upbeat songs aren’t nearly as cheesy as you’d expect for a young artist. I’d love to see him perform live and see what he’s really made of, but in the meantime feel free to check out the album by clicking the photo.

What’s up fiends? I know that everyone has been blasting “Novacane” by Frank Ocean, any and everything put out by MMG and the standard inaudible southern hip-hop with a hot beat. While those things are all fine and dandy, don’t be afraid to expand your iTunes a little bit.
Owl City’s “All Things Beautiful” album is definitely worth a few spins in your cd player/plays on your iPod. If you are looking for soulful drug ballads then this is not the album for you, but if you are looking for some easy listening for the myriad long summer drives that will undoubtedly come to past…then check them out.

I’m going to be real, although I took multiple years of spanish in high school, can chacha and bachata, really enjoy Coronas with lime and would probably die of malnourishment if rice went extinct…I have no idea what this song is about. Maybe I should have paid more attention to what my teacher was trying to get across or maybe I just need the Rosetta Stone programs but either way, I was confused.

I’ve been accepting musical submissions to the site for a while, but until now I had never actually posted any (my bad). I decided that it was time to expand our readership and become a little more worldly and this song popped up in my email. So here’s my first international/foreign song post. To all of my latino readers…can somebody please tell me if this song is hot?

What are your thoughts of Beyonce’s new Single ‘The Best Thing I never Had’? I love the one liners but I think the song is lacking but I’m sure I’ll be singing it non-stop in a few weeks. Bey does that to me lol.

Lauryn Is at It Again!!!

This week marked the 30th year that many fans and supportors mourn the loss of Bob Marley, except this year they celebrated his life with the help of Lauryn Hill. On Jimmy Fallon this week, Hill performed, “Chances Are,” and “Could You Be Loved,” which are two Marley classic. Unlike other performances, her biggest critiques were edging on her band and tapping on her earpiece while singing.

She is getting use to being with her band and producing a sound that causes us to remember a revolutionary era within our music and culture. Lauryn Hill will continue with her tour through the Fall and who’s to say what will happen next.

A Ressurrection of Sorts

Hip Hop liberation lyricist, Lauryn Hill is making a return back to the world of music. It has been almost more than 10 years since she has captivated audiences with her provoking lyrics of radical truth and performances that would give you an experience one would deem God sanctioned and unforgettable. This year at Choachella, Lauryn Hill gave a compelling 40 min performance that convinced the audience, that not only is she back, but she is here to stay. Her decision to leave the industry on such abrupt terms was selfish, in a sense, but nevertheless, her concert dates and show appearances have been making up for lost time. The void she left in the music industry can be filled once again. Now women, and African American’s can hear substance in lyrics over a tight beat, feel liberated, and have a heightened conscious because Lauryn Hill has resurrected from her slumber-like sabbatical.

I know that some of you are enjoying the final minutes of your day of herbal appreciation, but make sure that you do not go to sleep without checking out Curren$y’s new mixtape Covert Coup. With a synergistic combination of smooth beats and a ‘96 Hov meets Lil Wayne flow, this mixtape is definitely it’s harddrive space in gold.
